Easter Sunday 1961

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Our first Easter in the United States.   We celebrated it with my Mom's brother and his family at the Los Angeles Arboretum. Easter back then always meant a new dress, hat, shoes, gloves and of course the horrible itchy crinoline slip and spending the day with family.

Oh yes, the layers of crinolines. And those hats that clamped onto your head which felt like a vise. I found a photo of myself all decked out and all I could remember of the moment was the itchy and the pain Happy Easter indeed.

Co-incidentally at that time, my great-aunt Millie, who lived in the States, sent a similar outfit to England for me. It came with a note saying that she hoped the weather would be fine so that I could wear it for Easter. Thanks for the memory.
