~It's My First Blogiversary~

A year ago when  I started Spirits of the Old I wasn't sure if blogging was really for me, my previous blogging attempt lasted a total of three post and I knew I did not have the talent or knack to put on paper or in this case blog what was in my head or heart. But after following other genealogy blogs for awhile I decided that I had  to give it one more try. While I still struggle what to say, I have found that I really love to blog!
Since I started this journey a year ago my family tree has grown from 65 names to 592 documented names, I have found long lost family in Spain, England,Scotland ,Canada and the United States and we are having a blast sharing family photos, stories, history and getting to know each other.

I look forward to another year of sharing and discovering with family, friends and followers.

Sepia Saturday~ Stromberg - Carlson

In the 1940's mom worked at the Stromberg~ Carlson Factory in Toronto Canada. She worked in the telephone department along with her best Friend Shirley Coulter and it was their job to put the dials on the phone.

Shirley Coulter,2 unknown Co Workers and my mom outside the Stromberg Carlson factory. I noticed  my mom's Candy Cane dress but there is no snow on the ground not a jacket in sight so I don't think the pictures were taken in December, knowing my mother and how much she loved the Christmas Season she probably wore her festive dress regardless of the month.

Sepia Saturday~ 3 Ross Sister's

From Left to Right :Margaret Ross (Smith)~ Elizabeth Ross (Duthie)~ Annie Ross

The Ross Sisters ~The 3 oldest daughters of 8 children born to William Ross and Margaret Arthur, Margaret 1879~Elizabeth 1871 and Annie in 1876. I'm not sure of the occasion for the photo above, Could it  have something to do with the narrow piece of paper Ann is holding in hand? While Margaret and Ann's dresses are plainer than Elizabeth's perhaps it was taken around the time of Elizabeth's wedding in 1897?

Margaret Ross (Peg) was the wife of my Great Grand Uncle Alexander Smith.  Alexander and Margaret were married June 14, 1901 in Rosehearty, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. They were married for 52 years and had six children. Margaret died September 19,1953 at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen and Alexander on April 15,1961 in Aberdeen.

Wordless Wednesday~An Award from Lady Aberdeen

Photo Album belonging to Mary Bella Watson
The photo album belonged to my Great Grandmother Mary Isabella Watson, a prize from the Haddo House and Lady Aberdeen in 1883 when she was  of 17.

Early in her married life Lady Aberdeen started the Haddo House Association, which was founded on democratic principles and aimed at a system of personal self-culture. Her own servants were induced to join and to take part in classes for singing, drawing, and wood-carving, and to attend lectures and concerts arranged especially for them.
